Stock Market trading holidays 2019: NSE | BSE

We are in the mid of December 2018, normally the last month of the year people do an introspection of what he/she had done in the whole year. Similarly in the stock market also investors/traders do an introspection about their trades/mistakes have done throughout the year. In the US and UK, investment market activity becomes slow due to long stock market trading holidays in the month of December particularly from Christmas to New year.

In India, though we have only one trading holiday on Christmas, mostly Foreign Institutional Investors (FII's) goes on leave for 10 to 15 days during this period. Due to which volume in the Indian market these days are also very low. Domestic Institutional Investors (DII's) and  Indian Retail investors are also on holiday mood in the year-end.

Trading holidays have a big impact on markets whether it is in India or globally. If the stock market is closed for 2 days then the next trading session is very difficult to analyze how the market will behave. For example, say if there is any negative news come during holidays no matter whether it is domestic or international then after the holiday market sentiment will change. Though it does not affect much for long-term investors. The traders always remain cautious before trading holidays particularly if it is long extended trading holidays including the weekend.
